5 Great Books for Children and Anxiety

1.Worry Says What by Allison Edwards

A great book for ages 5-12 on talking back to their Worry Monster. It helps children feel empowered by talking back to their worries and telling themselves what is true. Because sometimes that Worry Monster isn’t helpful and keeps us from doing the things we want to do!

2. Ruby Finds a Worry by Tom Percival

This is a great book on how when avoid or ignore our feelings, they get BIGGER. They can become so big it can make other things in our life more difficult. This promotes talking about our feelings with friends and adults we trust. Great for ages 4-8 years old.

3. The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

This book is a beautiful story about a little Raccoon going to school, and he feels a little nervous to leave his parent. This is great if you have a kiddo that might be experiencing separation anxiety or an upcoming change or transition.

4. What to Do When You Worry too Much by Dawn Huebner

For ages 6-12, this uses interactive activities and prompts to not “feed” or “grow” your worries. It gives children tools on how to manage their anxiety when it shows up, as anxiety is a human emotion!

5. Anxiety Workbook for Kids by Amy Nasamran

I like a resource that gives tools for children to manage their anxiety, and this workbook is filled with them! You can do a few pages each night together, or they can work on it on their own depending on their age. This workbook is great for children ages 8-12 years.
